How I DON'T work
Recently, I found this funny little film on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYLMTvxOaeE. The therapist simply says to all the client is bringing up: STOP IT! Could the solution really be that simple?
Most probably the client would have done it long ago. Every now and then the therapist throws some judgements to her. But also that is not enough. Those judgements we carry already within us. And they cause a lot of tension but no healing. What works is to look at the different parts which play a role in the problem. Because that you act how you act or think how you think has a reason! It started once as a good way to deal with something difficult (we call it a coping strategy). But now it can bother you a lot. By looking at it in a mild and merciful way, permit yourself to feel the old feelings and actively address your coping strategy, healing is possible. I would like to say, don't STOP IT, but DO IT! And search for professional help when you can't deal with it by yourself alone.
