Our first impressions of people are for an important part made up from body language. Facial expressions and mimicry, way of moving, laughing, speaking, eye contact: those are all variables which can play an important role in the first click.

Body language is important because it is seen as a rather uncensored expression of one's real self. People can direct their verbal behaviour, but their nonverbal behaviour is less easy to manipulate. When verbal and non-verbal behaviour are contradictory we tend to assume that someone 'speaks' the truth nonverbally. Trainings are being offered to teach how you can present yourself better with the right body language. But body language is too comnplex and subtle for that. The risk exists that your signals aren't congruent and that's what is making you 'strange'. Therefore, it is better to work on the inside: your beliefs, thoughts and feelings. To clear away things from the past that bother you now. To be able to make real contact. With a body language which fits compared to how you feel and think.
