Check your relation

What makes that some people succeed in staying happy their whole life and even in love, while others make each other very unhappy? John and Julie Gottman did extensive research in this area and learned a lot!


They found e.g. that quarreling isn't that bad, provided that you are able to resolve the relational stress again. It is also important that you know what keeps your partner busy and what were important events in his or her life. What are signs that something goes wrong. Do the relation check:

- Turn away from each other, instead of being directed towards each other

- Compare your partner with (nicer looking) others

- Hide things for each other

- Enlarge negative characteristics of your partner in your thoughts

- Complain about him or her to others

- Invest less and less in your relation

- Building resentment

- Go to others for attention and appreciation
